Hi, I'm Rachael and I love hair. I have more than ten years’ experience working as an industry-specific editor and as @thehairhistorian; your go-to, hair-obsessed expert for quotes, theory and insight into the history of hair and hairdressing.

I work full time as a hair editor, producing content, copy and education for hair brands and managing social media profiles for companies including ghd, Schwarzkopf Professional, the Fellowship for British Hairdressing and Indola.

I launched The Hair Historian in 2016 as an Instagram account combining my passions for art and hair history. I have featured as a hair history expert on the BBC and Australia’s Channel 7 Sunrise show, and in titles including Time, Dazed, Stylist, InStyle, Refinery 29, The Cut, ELLE, MashableArt UK, Hairdressers Journal and AnOther. I have extensive knowledge of the history of the hairdressing industry – trends, techniques, tools and the wider cultural impacts of hair.

Previously, I worked as a producer at Mastered and created online session styling education from leading hairdressers Guido and Sam McKnight. I produced the video content with Guido, Sam and countless other experts, as well as writing the syllabus and copy for the classroom.

Before Mastered, I spent five years as web editor for www.HJi.co.uk – the online home of the 140-year-old title Hairdressers Journal, aka ‘the Bible of the hairdressing industry’ (and the brains behind the British Hairdressing Awards and Salon International).

Prior to that, I was the acting editor on the Scissorhands Media portfolio of consumer hair titles; Hair Now, Hair & Beauty Inspirations, Perfect Hair and www.findasalon.co.uk.

It’s safe to say, I know a thing or two about hair. (And I'm pretty into hair metal, too.)
